More than 150 people attended the event at the County Ground at Edgbaston to celebrate the achievements of the club's young players.

One person who attended the dinner said she was "appalled" by the comments made by the 27-year-old.

The woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "When the captain was asked in an open question and answer session as to why our female world leading cricketers don't get more publicity, no one was expecting to hear the captain of the squad respond as he did.

"The hushed response in the paying audience was out of total disbelief."

Warwickshire said Westwood apologised internally and to those at the dinner, which took place last month.
