MONTREAL--(BW HealthWire)--March 13, 2001

In response to strong institutional demand, Caprion Pharmaceuticals Inc. announced today that it has completed a second closing of its recent financing and has raised an additional US$4.1 million (C$6.2 million) bringing the total funds raised to US$37.5 million (C$58.1 million) for the largest ever private placement in an independent Canadian biotechnology company. The financing, managed by Yorkton Securities, was led by Ventures West and Fidelity Management & Research Company and funds and accounts managed by it.
