Capping the Millbrae BART Station.News Editors/City Desks MILLBRAE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 2001 The largest fabric roof on the Peninsula is about to be installed over the new Millbrae BART Station now under construction. The tensioned membrane, fabric roof will become a new landmark near the intersection of US 101 and Millbrae Avenue. Placement of 82,000 square feet of roof fabric is anticipated to begin this week. Work to set the fabric in place will take place during the day and the unrolling of the fabric over the steel roof frame will take place during nighttime work hours (midnight-4:45 am). Installation of the entire roof will take approximately two months. The fabric roof is part of the pavilion-style architecture of the new five track BART and Caltrain station. It is made out of a durable fiberglass fiberglass, thread made from glass. It is made by forcing molten glass through a kind of sieve, thereby spinning it into threads. Fiberglass is strong, durable, and impervious to many caustics and to extreme temperatures. Teflon material that is ultra-violet and tear resistant.
