Capital's potential to be nurtured by new partnership.CARDIFF has the potential to be one of Europe's leading economic cities, a newly formed business group said yesterday. The Cardiff Business Partnership has been set up by some of the capital's leading employers - all from the private sector. They want to strengthen the city's place as Wales' economic centre, while also ensuring Cardiff will in future compete with some of Europe's top cities. The partnership has set up a sub-group, called the 2030 Group, specifically to look at the capital's economic growth. It is hoped the partnership - whose members employ more than 10,000 people between them - can lobby effectively on behalf of business and provide a new strategic view on Cardiff's development. Huw Eurig Davies, chief executive of leading independent television company Boomerang Plus, is to head up the 2030 Group, which aims to "give the city a clear path for becoming an internationally competitive capital". Speaking at the partnership's launch at Mansion House, Mr Davies said: "Cardiff has all the pieces in place to become a leading international capital, our workforce is second to none and no other English core city has as many graduates per head. "We need to show more ambition as a metropolitan hub and become the most competitive city in the UK." Cardiff Business Partnership chairman, Legal and General director Adrian Clark, backed that view. He said: "We want to make sure that our knowledge and expertise contributes to the city's development. "Cardiff Business Partnership will act as a voice for leading employers in the city. "It will also be able to work with other key organisations charged with the development and promotion of the city to ensure that Cardiff maximises its potential as a major European capital."
