Canvas Systems attributes its significant growth to being able to accommodate the increased demand for lower IT budgets by selling pre-owned IT and networking equipment. Products are purchased through a wide variety of finance options, including short-term leases and rentals. Canvas also offers asset recovery solutions including equipment buyback, recycling services and removal of proprietary data from servers and storage. These services are crucial in a time when companies are trying to recoup as much value as possible from their IT investments.

According to CRN, the Fast Growth 100 list represents a compilation of the top technology solution providers that are developing custom applications, vertical market solutions and driving growth through managed services An umbrella term for third-party monitoring and maintaining of computers, networks and software. The actual equipment may be inhouse or at the third-party's facilities, but the "managed" implies an ongoing effort; for example, making sure the equipment is running at a certain quality . The list was compiled from a call for nominations conducted by CRN during the fourth quarter of 2004. Solution providers were then ranked by revenue growth over the prior 12 months. To qualify for the list, each company had to be an independently owned business since at least 2001 and have sales of at least $250,000. The average participant reported $55 million in sales and grew 37 percent.
