NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 23, 1997--

Firm Will Donate Pollution-Lowering Credit

For Every Recorded Web Site Visit

Cantor Fitzgerald's Environmental Brokerage Services (EBS See Swiss Electronic Bourse.

), the world's leading environmental credit intermediary, today announced a unique new web site for environmental credit traders, enabling them to make an immediate pro- environment statement. For each recorded visit to the new site -- www.cantor.com/ebs/ - - the firm said it will purchase and donate one credit to retire one pound of pollution from the environment, up to 5,000 pounds per month.

The new web site will, initially, contain information from l9 of the most active environmental credit markets across the country. For selected markets, the data will cover air credit supply and demand, recent transactions, prices, and market price indices. More detailed, in-depth information -- available exclusively to registered users -- will be drawn from the firm's busy Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  area Continuous Clean Air Auction and Title IV S02 allowance market. This includes supply and demand data, bid and offer prices, and recent and pending transactions.

Information from other California air districts, including San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. , New Jersey, Texas, Connecticut, and other states. Information concerning water credits and other geographic locations is expected to be added in the near future.

Explaining EBS' move to make this level of information so readily accessible, Managing Director Carlton Bartels said: "Our goal is to help our clients make informed and reasoned decisions and work with them to execute trades quickly and efficiently. The web site will allow them to get timely and accurate data about the Title IV SO2 allowance and Title I air credit markets."

The availability of an active marketplace for environmental credits -- and a flexible, low-cost means to exchange them -- gives large and small industrial concerns a strong financial incentive to invest in equipment and technology and make production changes that will lower their output of air and water pollutants.

Commenting on the EBS environmental donation, Senior Vice President Josh Margolis noted: "We had an outstanding 1996. This year, having already transacted over 4.4 million RECLAIM Trading Credits in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , hundreds of pounds per day of emission reduction credits, and thousands of SO2 allowances, we are maintaining that record pace. As a result, we're pleased to make this pro-environment gesture and give web-users a way to help lower air pollution."
