) Monday announced that it has retained Scherrer & Associates, Ltd., as its financial advisor for the restructuring of several under-valued Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITS REITS Real Estate Investors of the Tri-States (Harrison, TN) ).

Through market research, studies have shown that as interest rates rise, investors will demand higher yields from alternate sources such as REITS. If yields are not in line with investor expectations, investors will shift their money back to more stable investments. As a result, the growth of existing REITS is limited to means of property acquisition funded through mergers, offerings, or by creating UPREITs.

Canton Financial has targeted REITS with a market capitalization Market Capitalization

A measure of a public company's size. Market capitalization is the total dollar value of all outstanding shares. It's calculated by multiplying the number of shares times the current market price. This term is often referred to as market cap.
 value between $5 and $100 million straddled with deteriorating yields. Canton Financial believes that through consolidation the REITs will become efficient.
