 Foundation's HealthKey project that is designed to test public key-encryption infrastructure (PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) A framework for creating a secure method for exchanging information based on public key cryptography. These patients are brought to UNC's specialized medical facilities because of the lack of local resources or expertise to provide care in their community.

"Referral Results Today" is one of two UNC School of Medicine projects that will participate in this pilot to improve the timeliness of communications between providers at UNC's Newborn Critical Care Center (NCCC NCCC National Civilian Community Corps (AmeriCorps)
NCCC Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club
NCCC National Cervical Cancer Coalition
NCCC Niagara County Community College
NCCC National Council of Corvette Clubs
) and the infant's local pediatrician. The NCCC receives 750 admissions each year from 60 counties in North Carolina.

"We selected Canopy because of its commitment to excellent patient care," said Karen Metzguer, Referral Results Today project director and clinical associate professor, neonatal/perinatal medicine, Department of Pediatrics and UNC Center for Maternal and Infant Health. "We have always had a commitment to communicating with the infant's local provider, but it often resulted in telephone tag and the information was not timely or consistent. Canopy allows us to post the information so the physician can access it at any time via the Internet."

UNC School of Medicine's Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation's "TelAbility" program will also use Canopy. TelAbility uses telecommunications to increase the availability of health services health services Managed care The benefits covered under a health contract  for children with disabilities.
