) announces the passing, due to a sudden illness, of its President, John A. Habbishaw on July 24, 2000.

Mr. Habbishaw served as President of Canop since June, 1998 and, during his tenure, was responsible for focusing the exploration efforts of the Company on its Tanzanian oil and gas property. He will be greatly missed by his fellow employees and by all who knew him.

During a transitional phase, administrative responsibilities will be assumed by C. Alan Smith, Chairman of the Board.
