Canon trade show purchase & launch; partial results released.


Canon Communications (Los Angeles, CA), a unit of Apprise Media (New York), will launch Green Manufacturing Expo (GMX GMX Global Message Exchange ) in Anaheim (CA) from Jan.29-Feb. 1, 2008 for design, manufacturing and facility management professionals. The show is the first in a series of shows for sustainable manufacturing as a feature at Canon's largest events for advanced manufacturing. GMC GMC

 presents software providers, eco-friendly materials producers, manufacturers of energy efficient automation, production equipment, sub assemblies, and alternative energy technology.

The new show is co-located with Canon's Medical Design & Manufacturing West, Pacific Design & Manufacturing, ATX See ATX motherboard.

ATX is a development of the Baby AT specification with the motherboard rotated 90 degrees in the chassis.
 West, WestPack, Electronics West, and PLASTEC PLASTEC Plastics Technical Evaluation Center  West.

Also, Canon has acquired two trade shows in Germany, INTERPART and SURFACTS as part of its expansion in the European market. INTERPART is a trade show for manufacturers and subcontractors in the automotive, electronics, medical and machine construction industries in Southern German while SURFACTS serves European companies providing mechanical, chemical or thermal surface treatment, finishing technology, galvanizing technology or vacuum coating for a range of industries, including automotive and machine construction.

And, beginning in 2008, Canon will organize a new event, Medipart, that will co-locate with the acquired shows. Medipart will feature exhibitors presenting a range of precision metal components, sub-assemblies and parts for German medical device manufacturers.

Finally, Canon's revenue for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2007 was up 22%, and its EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) A metric used to show a company's profitability, but not its cash flow. EBITDA became popular in the 1980s to show the potential profitability of leveraged buyouts, but has become  grew 34%, as compared to fiscal 2006. In limited reporting, Canon said revenues have risen 33% and EBITDA 55% since the company was acquired by Apprise Media in early 2005. The company said the increases are due to growth in existing products, the launch of new products and to acquisitions. Besides the deal mentioned above, Canon has made six major acquisitions since its purchase by Apprise. The acquisitions include: "Medical Device Technology" magazine, and a buyer's guide, conference and forum from Octo Media (London) in the first quarter of 2006; "Powder Bulk Solids" magazine and eight manufacturing sector trade shows from Reed Business Information Reed Business Information is a large business publisher in the United States, United Kingdom, continental Europe, Australia and Asia. It is a division of Reed Elsevier.

In 2005, Reed Business Information started the Quill Awards, a literary award broadcast on NBC.
 (Rockaway, NJ) in the second quarter of 2006; "Appliance Magazine" from Dana Chase Publications (Oak Brook, IL) in the first quarter of this year; Plastics USA trade show from the Society of Plastics Industry (Washington, D.C.) in the first quarter of 2007; four U.K. manufacturing technology events from Trident Exhibitions (Devon, UK) in the second quarter of 2007; and, "Med Ad News Med Ad News is a magazine, delivering pharmaceutical business and marketing news. The magazine was started in 1982 and is published by Engel Publishing Partners . The content appears in a print monthly distributed around the world and on PharmaLive.com. " and "R&D Directions" magazines, and related web sites, events and newsletters as part of its purchase of Engel Publishing from Euromoney Institutional Investor (New York) in the third quarter of 2007.
