Canon introduces most advanced Optical Card System.

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 28, 1995--Canon U.S.A., Inc. announced today a new Optical Card System featuring the world's highest capacity Optical Card, OC35, and the smallest, lightest Optical Card Read/Write unit, RW50.

"The RW50 represents a major breakthrough in reader/writer design and performance. The unit is the world's fastest compact read/write unit, featuring data throughput of up to 26 KBytes/second, with a compact size measuring only 5.5" (W) x 6.5" (D) x 2.3" (H)," said Haruo Murase, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. The credit card-size OC35 has a data storage capacity of up to 6 MBytes of information (up to 4.89 MB of user data after formatting), the equivalent of more than 2,400 pages of type-written text. The Optical Card has several hundred times more storage capacity than even high-end IC chip cards or smart cards.

The Canon Optical Card is a secure, highly tamper-resistant personal, portable database. In addition to its extensive use in health care as a portable clinical record, the Canon/Optical Card was recently selected by the Canadian government for use in its "CANPASS CANPASS Canadian Pass (document allowing entry into Canada at remote locales) ", a frequent traveller positive identification project at Vancouver International Airport Vancouver International Airport (IATA: YVR, ICAO: CYVR) is located on Sea Island in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, about 15 kilometres from downtown Vancouver. , British Columbia. Canon's new Optical Card System will be displayed for the first time at CardTech/SecurTech '95 West, North America's premier card technology show and conference at the San Jose Convention Center in California, Nov. 29 and 30, 1995.
