Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE:CAJ), and a leader in high-speed document scanners, today rounds out its comprehensive offering of high-performance DR Series scanners with the DR-7080C, a high-speed color document scanner designed for low- and mid-volume production users.

Incorporating the state-of-the-art scanning engine developed for the newly released Canon imageRUNNER C6800 multifunction device (MFP), the DR-7080C delivers outstanding image quality with optimized throughput and ease of use. The DR-7080C is the first product to leverage both imageRUNNER and DR-SCANNER technology.

Based on Canon's advanced image processing technology, the DR-7080C achieves the same speed, up to 70 pages-per-minute in color, black-and-white or grayscale, at resolutions up to 200 dpi. The DR-7080C also introduces to this market several innovative scanner features found on Canon's top-of-the-line, high volume model, the DR-9080C Color Production Scanner, recipient of Better Buys for Business Scan-to-File guide's 2003 Editor's Choice Award, and mid-volume DR-6080 Production Scanner. The expanded capabilities include a high-speed USB 2.0 or SCSI interface, intelligent automatic image rotation, MultiStream(TM) support, and 600 dpi optical resolution. Additionally, the DR-7080C comes bundled with Canon's scanning software, Capture Perfect v2.1.

A dual sheetfed and flatbed scanner, the DR-7080C features an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) that can hold up to 100 sheets. The highly versatile device can scan long documents up to 21.3". Another considerable boost in productivity comes from Canon's versatile support of MultiStream technology. This enables DR-7080C users to simultaneously output two images from a single scan, in a variety of combinations: full-color, black-and-white, grayscale, binary or R/G/B color dropout. As a result, users can capture images for multiple applications at high speed.

The DR-7080C ships with industry standard ISIS and TWAIN drivers, and comes bundled with Canon's Capture Perfect v2.1 software, a plug-and-play application that provides a choice of output formats (i.e., Scan to Mail, Scan to PC, Scan to Print) for distributed workflows. Among the rich complement of "check-the-box" features are Searchable PDF creation, Advanced Text Enhancement and MultiStream support.

The DR-7080C excels in intuitiveness and ease of operation. User-friendly features include Document Set Indicators for both flatbed and feeder modes to visually alert users when documents are properly loaded and/or situated on the platen for scanning. The simple operation panel on the main unit provides push-button convenience for job setup and execution.

The ISIS and TWAIN drivers work with Windows 95, 98, ME Windows NT, 2000 and XP operating systems. The Canon DR-7080C document scanner has earned the ENERGY STAR designation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The suggested retail price of the DR-7080C is $7,995. The Canon DR-7080C will be available in May 2004 through authorized Canon U.S.A. dealers, select distributors and Canon resellers.
