Digital Microfilm Scanner/Printer 800 Features Extensive Image

Editing and Network Transmission Capabilities Through an 11" X 17"

Viewing Screen

Canon U.S.A. Inc. (Nasdaq:CANNY) today announced the immediate availability of the high-speed Digital Microfilm Scanner 800 (MS 800) for high-volume production environments.

In complimenting Canon's market leading range of microfilm and document scanners, the versatile MS 800 features high image resolution, broad editing and distribution capabilities, and an 11" x 17" viewing screen integrated within an overall small device footprint.

The MS 800 is ideal for a wide variety of vertical market applications where intuitive operation, high productivity, and flexibility of media and image transmission are required. For example, the MS 800 is designed to bring greater item processing efficiency to financial institutions, or directly address the wide format requirements of engineering firms. The scanning of checks, blueprints, newspapers, tabloid-size magazines and other similar documents is easily performed.

With connectivity to Windows 95/98/NT operating systems, the universal MS 800 utilizes a wide variety of film carriers, including 16mm and 35 mm open reels, 3M and ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. Scanning support of up to 600 x 600 dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution through multiple modes (Fine, Photo, Grayscale In computing, a grayscale or greyscale digital image is an image in which the value of each pixel is a single sample. Displayed images of this sort are typically composed of shades of gray, varying from black at the weakest intensity to white at the strongest, though in ) and a letter-size scan speed of 3 seconds per page also are offered.

"The introduction of the MS 800 is a clear indication of Canon's intent to expand its leadership position in the microfilm scanner market," said Robert J. Stankard, director and general manager, Canon Image Filing Systems Division. "By continuing to dedicate significant R&D resources to state-of-the-art digital micrographic mi·cro·graph

The level of office automation built into the MS 800 is enhanced through 6 one-touch function keys for frequently used settings, a special overlay mode that scans both sides of items such as checks and automatically re-positions them into single, portrait-oriented files, and Canon's FS Controller III, which delivers super-fast automated batch processing (1) Performing a particular operation automatically on a group of files all at once rather than manually opening, editing and saving one file at a time. An optional remote keyboard that provides quick, convenient access to all primary controls is ideal for maximizing productivity and for operators who may have physical disabilities.

The Canon Digital Microfilm Scanner/Printer 800 is available today through all authorized Canon Micrographic dealers with a main unit suggested retail price of $9,800, making the device one of the best value propositions available in the imaging marketplace.
