Canon's New CF-1 Digital Retinal Camera Provides High-Resolution Imaging Performance and Heightened Efficiency for Ophthalmic Professionals

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. -- Strengthening its position as a leading provider of total digital imaging and workflow management solutions for eyecare professionals, Canon U.S.A, Inc., today announced the introduction of the Canon CF-1 Digital Retinal Camera.

Featuring a redesigned optical system that achieves high resolution diagnostic images and offers outstanding operability Operability is the ability to keep a system in a functioning and operating condition. In a computing systems environment with multiple systems this includes the ability of products, systems and business processes to work together to accomplish a common task such as finding and , the CF-1 enables a 50-degree angle of view, providing detailed retinal images and is equipped with three imaging modes: color, fluorescein angiography and red-free. When attached to a Canon EOS 30D The Canon EOS 30D is an 8.2-megapixel semi-professional digital single-lens reflex camera, initially announced on February 20, 2006. It is the successor of the Canon EOS 20D, and is succeeded by the EOS 40D.  Digital SLR (1) (Scalable Linear Recording) A line of magnetic tape drives from Tandberg Data that evolved from the QIC Data Cartridge format.  Camera (sold separately), which provides up to 8.2 million pixels, the CF-1 is capable of delivering clear and detailed diagnostic images for immediate review.

The CF-1 provides impressive flexibility with smooth wide-range pan and tilt movements for exceptional ease of use. The ergonomic, streamlined design of the CF-1 achieves improved operation by motorizing procedures usually performed by hand, such as changing filters and adjusting the chin rest.

All CF-1 functions are integrated into a single tabletop unit with a power supply built directly into the base. The new compact design allows for closer interaction with the patient and easier access to the patient's eyes.

The CF-1 system includes Retinal Imaging Control Software; which facilitates comprehensive study management and image capture control at the operator's finger tips, in an intuitive graphical interface that is simple and straightforward to use. This newly developed PC-based software package provides quick, easy input and access to information and images required. The DICOM (medical, standard) DICOM - (From Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine) A standard developed by ACR-NEMA (American College of Radiology - National Electrical Manufacturer's Association) for communications between medical imaging devices.  (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) standard-compliant network interface enables easy integration with existing image management systems and allows connection to a variety of network configurations such as LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  or WAN and PACS (Picture ArChiving System) A storage and management system for high-resolution images. Typically pertaining to the medical field, images such as X-rays, MRIs and CAT scans require a greater amount of storage than other industries.  communication.
