Canon U.S.A. Announces New imageRUNNER 5000 Model; Options for New Base Configuration Receive Performance Upgrades.

Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE:CAJ), today announced the immediate availability of a new mid-volume imageRUNNER model, the imageRUNNER 5000, which replaces the previously offered imageRUNNER 5000 "S" and "N" models.

With 50 page-per-minute, black-and-white, digital copying standard, the new model responds to customer demands for greater flexibility in selecting optional multifunction capabilities, including network printing and scanning. These two options also have performance upgrades over those offered with previous imageRUNNER 5000 models.

Among the enhancements for the device include a new optional network print controller developed by Canon, the Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-A2, which provides improved processing speeds that are up to 1.5 times faster than its predecessor, the Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-A1. Optional scanning functionality is also supported with the new controller.

Also available is a Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-A2 "Upgrade Kit," which allows existing owners of the imageRUNNER 5000 "S" model the ability to upgrade to the network print performance offered by the new controller.

Designed around a robust print engine capable of supporting 2400 x 600 dpi and 256 grayscale resolution, and up to 200,000 impressions per month, the imageRUNNER 5000 caters to large corporate departments by bringing the reliability, and document handling capability, of systems targeting the Central Reprographic Department (CRD), to the general office user. High-end document finishing, such as multi-position stapling, 2/3 hole punch, and saddle-stitch booklet making capability, are all possible through intuitive device drivers at the user desktop.

Pricing and Availability

The imageRUNNER 5000 has a suggested retail list price of $17,000 and is available today through Authorized Canon U.S.A. Dealers and Canon Business Solutions locations. The new Canon Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-A2 for the imageRUNNER 5000 is also available today through Authorized Canon U.S.A. Dealers and Canon Business Solutions locations at a suggested retail price of $3,350.

The Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-A2 "Upgrade Kit" for imageRUNNER 5000 "S" models will be available on September 1, 2001 through Authorized Canon Dealers and Canon Business Solutions locations at a suggested retail price of $3,350.
