Color ImageRUNNER(R) 3200G Offers Affordable Color Printing; MEAP 

Development Architecture Turns MFPS into Enterprise Network Hub 

Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ) and the #1 brand in laser copiers(a), is showcasing at the General Services Administration Expo (GSA) a portfolio of advanced products for integrating document workflow across government agency and department networks.

Marketed in accordance with the Trade Agreements Act(b), Canon's product demonstrations and displays will include both the Color imageRUNNER(R) C3200G, a laser-based color Multi-Function Peripheral (MFP) that offers color printing and network connectivity, and the imageRUNNER 3320G MFP, which comes embedded with Canon's breakthrough Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform (MEAP(TM)), an architecture permitting easy customization of software solutions for managing, accessing and distributing documents directly from the control panel.

In addition to a host of other networked copier and facsimile devices, Canon will be highlighting the expansion of user-friendly product features, including those specifically designed for people with disabilities.

Canon imageRUNNER 3320G with MEAP Platform

A GSA first, Canon will be demonstrating its MEAP architecture on the imageRUNNER 3320G, a 33 page-per-minute (ppm)(c) digital black-and-white copier-based Multi-Function Peripheral (MFP). MEAP is a unique, Java-based development platform that resides as a functional capability on specific imageRUNNER devices, enabling Canon, third-party developers and government agencies to develop applications that automate and control any aspect of document workflow right from the user interface, without the need for a separate workstation or other hardware.

Further underscoring the emergence of networked MFPs as the communications hub of the enterprise, the imageRUNNER 3320G supports eCopy's ShareScan Open Platform (OP) software. With eCopy ShareScan OP, the industry-leading features of eCopy's ShareScan solution are now accessible from within the control panel of a Canon MEAP device. Additionally, with eCopy ShareScan OP's advanced administration and management features, administrators can manage multiple eCopy enabled MEAP devices from one central location.

Finally, the imageRUNNER 3320G offers the Accessibility Handle A-1, which is an optional accessory that enables users with disabilities to easily close the document feeder from the upright position. The copier also has Braille labels and a remote display option for the control panel, as well as easy to open push-button drawers.

Now On GSA Contract: Canon's Color imageRUNNER C3200G - A Copier-Based MFP That Prints In Color

Canon is also showing the Color imageRUNNER C3200G, which offers true color multifunctionality for busy office environments.

Designed to serve as the sole color networked digital multifunction device in the office, Canon's Color imageRUNNER C3200G is both fast and efficient. The device can print and copy both color and black-and-white documents at speeds of up to 32 pages-per-minute (ppm)(c) and can scan both color and monochrome documents (up to 23 ppm(c) and 36 ppm(c), respectively, at 600 dpi). Once connected to the network via the Canon Color Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-A1 or the imagePASS-C1 print controller options, users can realize unmatched flexibility and complete control over document production right from their desktops. A choice of three finishing options provides professional-looking output to fit every environment's need and budget.

The Color imageRUNNER C3200G's optional Universal Send capabilities makes it easy to convert color hard-copy originals into digital files and transmit them via the internet as E-mail attachments and I-Faxes.

The Color imageRUNNER C3200G also comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of utilities and features designed to simplify operation, management and security for users and administrators alike. Features that ship standard with the device include: Department ID mode for up to 1,000 departments or users; and Canon's web-based Remote User Interface and NetSpot Suite. Optional features include Canon's imageRUNNER Security Kit; imageWARE Office Software Suite, and eCopy's Suite 8.0, that enable the Color imageRUNNER C3200G to easily distribute and manage electronic copies of color paper documents and connect the Color imageRUNNER C3200G to enterprise e-mail systems.

The LaserClass 710G, Demonstrating the Power of Facsimile Technology

Another G-model product to be showcased by Canon at the GSA Expo is the Laser Class 710G. As Canon's premiere facsimile machine on GSA contract, the LC 710G offers flexible networking capabilities and I-Faxing options(d).

Designed as a standalone fax capable of upgrading to support additional applications, the LC 710G incorporates Canon's proven digital imaging expertise with state-of-the-art communications technology to provide high-quality fax performance and optional network connectivity for printing, scanning and convenience copying. Offering "push scan" technology, which enables the distribution of scanned documents to e-mail, network or host folders or files and to document management systems, the LC 710G is designed for small-to-mid-size workgroups that process large volumes of paper documents.

The CLC 1150R - Consistent, Fast Color Printing for Both Graphics and Office Environments

The CLC 1150R, with its advanced engine and powerful controller capabilities, is a laser printing device that can produce color-critical applications, including signage, brochures, proofs, direct mail and more. Designed for both graphics and department environments requiring fast turnaround, consistent color, and lower costs, the CLC 1150R, when configured with the Editor-F1, can accept document and color adjustments directly, without the need for desktop applications. As a result, users can manipulate images, alter colors and adjust sizes right at the device.

When combined with Canon's ColorPASS-Z650's NetWise(TM) open architecture, the CLC 1150R is capable of powerful, networked color-management solutions with a wide range of applications including Scan-to Command WorkStation(TM), Scan-to e-mail, and Fiery Remote Scan via the Recirculating Document Feeder. Job Submission allows the sending and storing of files in PDG format to the CLC 1150R via email-from any location. Command WorkStation 4 automatically detects all ColorPASS servers on the network, allowing easy management of them all from one window.

The CLC 1150R includes a Dual Control Panel, which allows persons with disabilities easy access to the copy functions from a seated position.

FAXPHONE(R) B45

The affordable FAXPHONE B45 is a personal desktop fax-phone that simplifies faxing and has the added convenience of a telephone handset, a telephone answering machine built-in and Caller ID function (requires telephone carrier service). The FAXPHONE B45 also has Canon's UCanTalk(TM) voice recognition technology, a simple solution for accessible faxing for persons with various types of disabilities. With UCanTalk, the machine automatically recognizes the user's voice to dial frequently called fax numbers with UCanTalk.

The CD-4050 and the Canon CR-180 Check Transport

The CD-4050 and the Canon CR-180 round out the broad product portfolio on display at GSA Expo 2004.

The CD-4050 Digital Document Recorder is a compact desktop system that utilizes state-of-the-art imaging technology to digitally scan up to 39 documents per minute, allowing data storage on CD-R devices via its built-in CD-Recorder, or on to a company's network, making it easy to retrieve, view, and move documents across a global enterprise.

The CR-180 Check Transport is a high-speed, two-sided check scanner capable of capturing and automating the exchange of data from both sides of a check. Coupled with the ImageChex Express Lite Package, Canon's CR-180 Check Transport System with ImageChex Express Lite allows government agencies to initiate a custom check run, interactively monitor and control its operation, and finally, archive, search and retrieve the scanned image records.

The Future of Document Management - Security

In addition to the safety features of the C3200G, Canon is working on other product solutions to address the security concerns of its government and private-sector customers. Canon is currently qualifying for several key security standards and programs, including the Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS), the Common Access Card (CAC)/Smart Card Program and the PKI Certificate Program.
