Eye Q Capture Review Software from Canon Supports Enhanced Productivity for Ophthalmic Professionals

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. -- Demonstrating its commitment to digital patient data and image management for ophthalmic professionals, Canon U.S.A., Inc., will debut its new Eye Q Capture Review software at the American Academy of Ophthalmology The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) is a medical association of ophthalmologists–medical doctors (MDs) specializing in eye care and surgery).

The group is based in San Francisco, California.

Designed for use on the Canon Non-Mydriatic CR-DGi Retinal Camera, the Canon Eye Q Capture Review software is a portable retinal imaging solution that facilitates the capture of patient images, both inside a doctor's office or outside in a public screening setting. The Eye Q Capture Review software has an easy-to-use, drag-and-drop interface that allows for rapid image acquisition, quick review of images in stereo and RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images. RGB was derived from our own perception of color because human eyes are sensitive to red, green and blue (see trichromaticity).  (Red-Green-Blue) separation modes and automatic image storage.

The software also features Emboss, the three dimensional rendition from a single image that can be viewed at a given set standard of separation without the need of special stereo glasses. When combined with RGB information that isolates the various layers of the posterior pole such as the nerve fiber, retinal structures and choroidal cho·roi·dal

"Whether an ophthalmic professional is part of a small practice or a busy healthcare facility, Canon offers powerful digital solutions that help simplify the management of patient data and images," said Tsuneo Imai, director and general manager, Medical Systems Division, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "Canon Eye Q Capture Review software can be part of a total solution that supports enhanced productivity, portability and compatibility, allowing ophthalmic professionals to review, analyze, print and digitally communicate to virtually any physician at any facility, anywhere in the world."

The Canon Eye Q line of software offerings is one of the industry's first solutions that offers conformance with the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) is a standard for handling, storing, printing, and transmitting information in medical imaging. It includes a file format definition and a network communications protocol.  (DICOM (medical, standard) DICOM - (From Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine) A standard developed by ACR-NEMA (American College of Radiology - National Electrical Manufacturer's Association) for communications between medical imaging devices. ([R])) Standard in ophthalmology. Images taken on a camera using Eye Q Capture Review software can almost instantly be saved in visible light (XC) and ophthalmic photograph (OP) formats, and utilized by other DICOM Standard-conforming systems.

In the Canon booth at the AAO Annual Meeting, a Virtual Office will be set up to show - and let attendees experience - how a doctor can utilize a Canon Non-Mydriatic camera, such as the 8.2 megapixel CR-DGi Non-Mydriatic Retinal Camera, and the Eye Q Prime Imaging application to quickly capture ultra high-resolution digital retinal images that can be reviewed, analyzed, printed and digitally communicated to virtually any facility, anywhere in the world. In the Virtual Office, Canon will offer demonstrations of the Eye Q Prime software's ability to interface with the Canon Auto-Ref Keratometer, and Auto-Tonometer, and capture and print retinal images on the show floor.

Canon will also be a participant in the Ophthalmic Photographers' Society 37th Annual Education Program, being held in conjunction with this year's AAO meeting.
