PHILADELPHIA -- New Document Imaging Scanning Solutions Demonstrate Canon's Leadership as a Provider of High-Performance Scanning Systems For Every Workgroup Environment

Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of digital imaging solutions, today unveiled the next generation of its award-winning DR scanner line with the introduction of the DR-2050C and DR-7580 - bringing enhanced production and total workflow solutions through superior speed, high image quality and proven reliability within reach to users of both light-batch, desktop scanning solutions as well as mid-range volume production systems.

The introduction of the new DR-2050C and DR-7580 further strengthens Canon's growing line-up of document imaging solutions, and - when combined with the recent introduction of the DR-2580C and DR-5010C scanners - effectively targets all levels of document management needs.

The introduction of the new DR-2050C and DR-7580 presents Canon customers with an expanded array of document imaging scanning solutions to optimize data-capture, document management and archival workflows and ultimately assist in streamlining business processes, enhanced records management efficiency and security, reduced operation costs and increased productivity. The new DR-2050C, a streamlined desktop sheet fed scanner, strengthens Canon's position in the workgroup market segment, while the high-volume DR-7580 perfectly addresses a variety of production scanning needs for a broad range of vertical business applications.

Starting at a U.S. suggested retail price of $795.00 for the DR-2050C, and $7560.00 for the DR-7580, the new Canon scanners will begin shipping in June 2005. The Canon DR-2050C and DR-7580 will be available through authorized Canon U.S.A. dealers and resellers.

With a profile barely the size of a standard file folder, the DR-2050C measures less than one foot wide, less than 8 inches high and just 3.5 inches deep. The flexible DR-2050C can scan letter-size documents in black-and-white or grayscale at speeds of up to 20 (simplex) pages-per-minute (ppm) and 40(2) (duplex) images-per-minute (ipm) and 24-bit color at up to 10 (simplex) ppm 20(3) (duplex) ipm. Despite its compact size, the DR-2050C ships with a wide array of features and functions, and is bundled with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 (Standard) and OmniPage SE, making it a remarkable value for workgroups and distributed scanning applications.

Engineered to serve the high-volume data-capture and archival workflows for a wide variety of paper intensive image capture applications and environments, the new DR-7580 performs at up to 75 (simplex) scanned (ppm) and up to 150 (duplex) ipm , in both black-and-white and grayscale mode.

With a multitude of advanced features designed to offer dedicated, high-volume operators increased throughput, the performance of the DR-7580 provide exceptional reliability, increased document feed options and the ability to scan documents of different sizes in a single batch. Rated for an estimated daily duty cycle of approximately 10,000 scans, the DR-7580 is designed for ease-of-maintenance, durability and feature user-replaceable feed rollers.

The new devices offer a long list of functions unique to Canon, including Multistream(TM) features that enable users to generate multiple images in a variety of modes (e.g. black-and-white, grayscale and R/G/B color dropout) from a single scan. Canon's patented staple detection feature prevents damage to both the device and the scanned document by automatically halting the scanning process, significantly reducing equipment jams and document damage. The DR-7580 also offer user-selectable ultrasonic and detect-by-length double-feed detection, automatic shading to ensure consistent image quality, the ability to recognize the orientation of text on a scanned document and correctly rotate the image, as well as hardware (roller) and software (image) deskew control.

The new DR-7580 is bundled with Canon's new scanning management and utility software - CapturePerfect 3.0 - which incorporates several software enhancements including the ability to save optical character recognition (OCR) images in searchable PDF form, scan-to-mail and a host of powerful image correction tools.

Both the DR-2050C and DR-7580 join the highly successful family of Canon DR-series scanners, which includes the color DR-9080C, DR-2080C, DR-7080C, winners of the Better Buys for Business "Editor's Choice" award.

The new DR-2050C and DR-7580, as well as the recently announced DR-5010C and DR-2580C, will be on display at the Canon booth during the AIIM / On Demand show in Philadelphia, May 17-19, 2005, an annual showcase of digital imaging technology innovation and strategic vision.
