, CCSI vice president of marketing and customer care. "Two years ago we understood that it wasn't about speeds and feeds, but what you could do with your printer, and so we created the Canon Creative concept. Full Photo Support

All the applications in Canon Creative 3 provide full support of photos and other image content from manipulation with an image editor and enhancer to integration with complete drag-and-drop capabilities. The software also supports the FlashPix image format standard. The new Canon Creative features the ImageStrip which allows users to view and share images within Canon Creative or between any Windows 95 application by just dragging and dropping the desired images.

The ImageStrip can be detached and docked to any side of the screen so that images can be easily accessed and used with a favorite application. It offers quick access to available images through a visual explorer of ColorDesk Photo and an instant connection to a scanner or digital camera for image input. It also provides various image capabilities including view, edit, copy and create.

"We feel Canon Creative is uniquely different from other printer companies' software bundles," continued Bergman. "Canon Creative is not a bundle. At that time, Computer Retail Week, an industry trade publication awarded CCSI the "Best Software/Hardware Promotion" for its Canon Creative strategy.

In addition, printing industry newsletter Hard Copy Observer noted "Canon's bundled software (1) Applications that are included with new hardware. When the software bundles from Canon, Hewlett-Packard, and Lexmark are compared in terms of `family enrichment,' Canon prevails over the other contenders."

With the introduction of its second generation software, Canon conducted a study which showed that more than 86 percent of its printer customers used the Canon Creative applications. CCSI's research also showed that the Canon Creative output accounts for 45 percent of pages generated on the Bubble Jet printers.

PC World noted in its June 1997 issue "Canon Creative 2 is still the best printer software bundle we've seen."
