) today announced it has begun shipping its PowerShot A5 digital camera (estimated street price $699(a)), which is already gaining attention among press and industry analysts.

The features that set the PowerShot A5 apart from its competition are its sharp megapixel-quality resolution resulting in five by seven-inch photographic prints and its unique size -- the eight-ounce camera literally fits in the palm of your hand. Publications such as Fortune and Business Week Online are already enthusiastic about Canon's latest entry in its award-winning PowerShot line of digital cameras.

"... the true test of a digital camera's worth is the quality of the photos it takes ... the portraits I took with the A5, even in low light, displayed good shadow detail and accurate flesh tones, and the outdoor photos were sharp and clear. Not many digital cameras display that range of sensitivity." Fortune, June 22, 1998.

"The PowerShot A5 is perhaps the easiest to use and the most flexible digital camera I've seen for some time." Business Week Online, July 8, 1998
