Canoga Perkins Extends ESCON and FICON for a Major International Bank; Canoga Perkins Interoperates with IBM SAN and Mainframe Equipment Over Great Distances.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 2002 Canoga Perkins has successfully tested its SAN extension using CWDM (Course WDM) An optical transmission method that is used for shorter distances than dense WDM (DWDM). Also known as "wide WDM," CWDM transmits fewer channels and uses wider spacing between the channels for distances up to 60 km. Wider spacing up to 25 nm, compared to 1. technology with a major international bank interoperating with IBM mainframe and peripheral equipment. Maximum size data blocks were transmitted over ESCON (Enterprise Systems CONnection) An IBM S/390 fiber-optic channel that transfers 17 Mbytes/sec over distances up to 60 km depending on connection type. ESCON allows peripheral devices to be located across large campuses and metropolitan areas. and FICON (FIber CONnector) An IBM mainframe channel introduced with its G5 servers in 1998. Based on the Fibre Channel standard, it boosts the transfer rate of ESCON's half-duplex 17MB/sec to a full-duplex 100MB/sec. that were extended 30 Km with the Canoga Perkins equipment in a data mirroring application. The testing went very well with no data errors occurring and an ultra short latency time of only 3 nano seconds. This test site will now be converted into a live application carrying production traffic. Canoga Perkins has been accepted in the IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) TotalStorage Proven testing program and plans to document its compatibility with IBM SAN equipment through this program.
