Jazz fans who really love Miles's Kind of Blue probably know that this album is something of a follow-up to that session, featuring as it does two of the players from Miles's band, alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley and pianist Bill Evans, here backed up by Percy Heath on bass and Connie Kay on drums. As you might expect from such a lineup, the music is at once soulful and tender, full of rich melody. Like Kind of Blue, this is an album that can be readily enjoyed even by those who do not ordinarily think of themselves as jazz fans. There was a Mobile Fidelity release of this recording some years back; for those who missed that one, this new XRCD XRCD Extended Resolution Compact Disc (JVC)

version is welcome news indeed. As a bonus, there are several extra cuts thrown in. For jazz fans, this is a premium release worth the premium price. --KWN
