JOE CANNING has been named in the Galway team for tomorrow's Leinster semifinal with Kilkenny as the Cats go into battle without the injured James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick and Noel Hickey.

Canning's participation had been thrown into major doubt by stomach and groin problems but the 20-year-old has been selected at fullforward regardless, though he will most likely undergo a late fitness test.

The only change sees Canning's brother & captain Ollie return at corner-back.

Fitzpatrick broke a bone in his hand recently and has clearly failed to prove his fitness sufficiently to team boss Brian Cody as this year's skipper Michael Fennelly partners Michael Rice at midfield.

Eleven of the side that beat Waterford in last year's All-Ireland final will be on duty, though Richie Hogan is a surprise exclusion despite scoring 1-10 in the NHL final win over Tipp.

There is one change on the Tipperary team to play Clare with Pat Kerwick regaining his place at right half-forward as John O'Brien moves to the edge of the square meaning that Micheal Webster drops to the bench.

Three Newmarket-on-Fergus players will make their SHC debuts for Clare as James McInerney slots in at full-back for the injured Conor Cooney, while Colin Ryan and David Barrett are in the forward line.

Ahead of tomorrow's replay with Limerick, Tony Browne has been restored to midfield on the Waterford team. The 36-year-old was introduced a substitute in t he drawn game but is an indirect replacement for Eoin McGrath as Stephen Molumphy moves to attack.

The only other change sees Gary Hurney at centre-forward in place of McGrath's injured older brother Ken.

Meanwhile, Limerick boss Justin McCarthy has named an unchanged team.
