Canley staff do fine job; Letters.

I FEEL compelled to write to you in response to your correspondent concerning the Canley Crematorium cre·ma·to·ri·um
n. pl. cre·ma·to·ri·ums or cre·ma·to·ri·a
A furnace or establishment for the incineration of corpses.

and it being "an absolute disgrace DISGRACE. Ignominy, shame, dishonor. No witness is required to disgrace himself. 13 How. St. Tr. 17, 334; 16 How. St. Tr. 161. Vide Crimination; To Degrade. ".

It is unfortunate that AR Padbury found this to be so.

Myself and my sister Peggy visit Canley Crematorium three to four times a year to tend our parents' grave and place flowers.

We have done this since 1964, a period of 45 years, and have always found the Canley Crematorium to be well-tended, clean and a credit to Coventry City Council and the Canley staff.

It may have been that the mowing mow 1

and cutting of grass/weeds/nettles had just been carried out and the next team were due to come along and clear.

It is noticeable over the years that many graves remain untended. We presume that there may not be any living relatives who visit in order to tend and clean the individual headstones and close areas.

A crematorium of this age and size will always have new graves with headstones and newly-planted areas as well as older sites.

Canley Crematorium is a credit to Coventry City Council and although a place of sadness for people visiting, also a place of tranquillity and reflection.

My sister and myself take great pride upon our visits, and so do the crematorium staff.
