Canham caps OSU win over Cardinal.

STANFORD, Calif. - Mitch Canham and Jordan Lennerton drove in three runs each in eighth-ranked Oregon State's 13-7 victory over Stanford in Pac-10 baseball action on Friday night.

Canham, a senior catcher and one of 50 players on the Dick Howser Trophy The Dick Howser Trophy is an award presented annually to the national College baseball player of the year, presented by the National College Baseball Writers Association. The award is named after Dick Howser, a collegiate and major league player and manager, who managed the Florida  watch list as the nation's top collegiate player, drilled a bases-loaded double in the ninth inning to seal the Beavers' sixth straight victory over the Cardinal. Lennerton also had a three-run double during a five-run fifth for the Beavers (33-8, 5-5 Pac-10) that snapped a 4-4 tie. Blake Keitzman, the second of four Beaver pitchers, relieved starter Mike Stutes in the fifth and went two innings to pick up his first win of the season. Eddie Kunz closed out the win with a perfect 1 1/3 innings for his eighth save.

Eaton, Cridland lead UO at Cal Collegiate Challenge

 Regionals with a career-best in the discus to highlight Oregon's first-day efforts at the California Collegiate Challenge track and field meet on Friday.

Eaton, from Bend, jumped a wind-aided 24 feet, 2 1/2 inches to win the event by three-quarters of an inch. It was also three inches off his season best.

Cridland, from Portland, uncorked a PR of 158-7 on her fifth throw to finish fourth and surpass the regional qualifying standard by more than three feet. Her previous best was 153-5.

Oregon's other top men's finisher was senior Brian Richotte in the hammer throw hammer throw

The Bruins (31-13, 7-6 Pac-10) led 1-0 when they scored four times in the fourth inning, three on Creps' key hit, and added three more in the fifth. The game ended because of the eight-run rule with two outs and the bases loaded.

UCLA freshman Megan Langenfeld (9-1) scattered five Oregon singles and struck out four with one walk. Melissa Rice (21-10) started and took the loss for the Ducks (39-12, 4-9).

Senior Suzie Barnes stole her 36th base in the fifth inning, tying Marnie McCall's single-season record set in 1992.

Young's HR helps OSU take series from Huskies

SEATTLE - DeAnn Young's two-run homer in the second inning backed Ta'Tyana McElroy's four-hit pitching in Oregon State's 2-0 victory over Washington in Pac-10 softball on Friday.

The 13th-ranked Beavers (35-16, 7-6) took the season series for the third straight year with the win over the No. 11 Huskies (30-13, 7-6). Young's home run, her fifth, came after Stephanie Ewing had walked.

McElroy (13-7) struck out four and walked none. Danielle Lawrie (19-8) fanned 15 for Washington.

Oregon doubles pairs exit Pac-10 Championships

OJAI, Calif. - Oregon's top doubles pair of Dominika Dieskova and Ana Cecilia Olivos fell 8-4 to California's Nina Henkel and Stephanie Kusano in the first round of the Pac-10 Championships on Friday.

Dieskova and Olivos, with a 49-23 record to rank as the best in UO history, will wait to see if they receive an at-large bid An at-large bid is a bid or berth in a sporting tournament granted by invitation, not right. This term is most commonly used in the United States to refer to berths that the NCAA grants in its annual Division I men's and women's basketball tournaments, although at-large berths are  to the NCAA Tournament.

Big innings give Beacons softball split with Corban

SALEM - Northwest Christian scored 14 runs in the last three innings for a 15-4 softball rout of Corban College and a split of their doubleheader on Friday.

Heather Cordell and Bethany McAlister, who homered, each drove in three runs for the Beacons (16-25) in the first game. Rachel Steigleman, a sophomore out of Churchill High School, had a home run for the Warriors (7-32).

Corban won the second game 8-0 on Kelly Seaton's five-hitter.

Lamar Harris added 28 points and 20 rebounds for the Chargers, who pulled away from a 72-69 halftime lead. Solomon Yearby added 27 points, including six three-pointers, former Duck Adam Zahn scored 26 points, and Charles Easterling had 24 points and 12 rebounds.

Former Oregon player Jay Anderson had seven rebounds in his first game with the Chargers and will see action today when the same two teams meet at 7:15 p.m. at the Morse Event Center.

Mohawk juniors, coach earn Class 1A hoop honors

Mohawk juniors Danny Reiter and Brody Wilkins both earned first-team all-state honors in Class 1A boys basketball, and their coach, Bart Rothenberger, earned coach of the year honors.

McKenzie junior Drew Wiley, who has committed to play at Oregon, was also a first-team selection.
