 which was first published in 1889, meaning that this edition will span 104 years. This latest edition has greater emphasis on the refining refining, any of various processes for separating impurities from crude or semifinished materials. It includes the finer processes of metallurgy, the fractional distillation of petroleum into its commercial products, and the purifying of cane, beet, and maple sugar  side of the sugar industry in response to a predicted increase in worldwide demand for white/ refined sugars plus, even more importantly, the technical management in the processes for lowering costs in production. The authors believe that with about 40% of new material incorporated into this edition the reader will be fully informed about the latest technology and technical management techniques in the raw house as well as in the refinery.
