Altman has been news director of Hearst-Argyle's WCVB-TV, Boston, since 1993, and was named a vice president of the station in 1998. In her new role, Altman will consult regularly with a group of Hearst-Argyle television stations' news departments to strengthen their competitive positions in their respective markets. She will report to Fred Young, Hearst-Argyle vice president, news. Brian Bracco, formerly vice president and news director of Hearst-Argyle's KMBC-TV, Kansas City, is the Company's other Group News Executive, and was the first named to the newly created post in February 2000.

A search for a new News Director at WCVB-TV will begin immediately.
