Candles lit for loved ones.


DOZENS of people will light a candle and join a service in Burbage next month to remember loved ones.

The village will host a requiem requiem (rĕk`wēəm, rē`–, rā`–) [Lat.,=rest], proper Mass for the souls of the dead, performed on All Souls' Day and at funerals.  eucharist for the departed on Friday, November 2. It will be held in St Catherine's Church from 7.30pm.

The rector RECTOR, Eccl. law. One who rules or governs a name given to certain officers of the Roman church. Dict. Canonique, h.v.  of Burbage, Canon David Jennings, said: "The annual requiem at St Catherine's is one of the most moving services of the church's year when we come together, with the bereaved be·reaved

, to remember and pray for departed loved ones in an act of corporate solidarity.

"Those who have lost loved ones, together with those who have attended in previous years, will have been personally invited to the service, to hear the names of the departed read and light a candle in their memory."

The service will be conducted by the Rev Canon Dr Professor Martyn Percy, principal of Cuddesdon Theological College, Oxford, and the church choir will perform Faure's Requiem.
