Candidates square up.

TWO candidates in Birmingham's local elections will be trying to prove their green credentials tonight at a hustings event organised by the Campaign against Climate Change.

Joe Rooney, of the Green Party, is contesting the Bournville ward and Raghib Ahsanfrom Respect, who is standing in Lozells and East Handsworth.

They will be joined by sitting councillors Deirdre Alden (Edgbaston) for the Conservatives and Jerry Evans (Lib Dem, Springfield).

Labour had been invited to send a speaker, but have yet to respond. Phil Thornhill, the national coordinator of CCC will chair the evening.

The CCC supports urgent and radical action to prevent permanent and devastating changes in the Earth's climate.

The hustings will take place at Birmingham Council House in committee rooms 3 and 4 at 7.30pm.
