State schools chief to speak

at Kerry/Edwards meeting

Susan Castillo, state superintendent of public instruction, will be the guest speaker at a Lane County for Kerry/Edwards general meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1626 Willamette St., Eugene.

Castillo also spoke before the recent visit to Eugene by Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic nominee for president.

At that rally, Castillo urged women to vote: During the 2000 election, she said, six states were decided by fewer than 10,000 votes - and 22 million unmarried women didn't vote, many who were disillusioned dis·il·lu·sion

That's the League of Women Voters of Lane County - it's available to speak to groups and organizations about state and local ballot issues before the Nov. 2 general election.

The group is nonpartisan and neither supports nor opposes political parties and candidates. They explain ballot measures and present pro and con PRO AND CON. For and against. For example, affidavits are taken pro and con.  arguments in a presentation that takes 20 to 30 minutes.

Filmmaker Michael Moore

bringing his tour to Eugene

Author and filmmaker Michael Moore will visit Eugene on Monday as part of his "Slacker Uprising Tour" leading up to the Nov. 2 election.

Moore's appearance, beginning at noon at the Lane Events Center, is sponsored by the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  Cultural Forum. Tickets are $5 and available to the general public beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday through the UO ticket office.

Tickets can be purchased by phone at 346-4363 or at the window at the Erb Memorial Union on campus. Moore is the director of the Oscar-winning documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11," about President Bush's actions before, during and after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
