Various water locked places here can be accessed only with the help of boats and Burman, a candidate from Joynagar constituency has relied on this mode of communication.s a part of Burman's campaign, three decorated boats accompany him with banners and posters ferrying fellow party workers from one habitat to another. "Sunderbans is a water locked area. Most of the islands here can be approached only through waterways. Vehicles cannot be used for campaign here. Boats are the best way to traverse and communicate here. Hence, I decided campaign by boat," said Burman. The villagers line up along the banks of River Matla waiting to catch a glimpse of their candidate. On his part, the confident aspirant of a parliamentary seat meets the villagers, discusses about their problems such as unemployment, lack of electricity and irrigation facilities and also river erosion among others. Burman patiently interacts with the villagers and volunteers to tackle all these issues, if elected and seeks their votes. Reportedly, RSP, a part of the Left Front has a strong hold in the Joynagar region.
