Candela changes company name to emphasize diversification.

WAYLAND, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 4, 1996--Candela Laser Corp. (CLZR) recently announced that it has changed its name to Candela Corp.

President and CEO, Gerard E. Puorro, stated, "By eliminating the word `laser' from the company's name, we are emphasizing a major diversification strategy currently under way. The new name better represents Candela's expanded mission. We will continue to develop our core business, the design and production of advanced medical laser systems; however, Candela has developed into a provider of high-quality medical services and products with three major areas of emphasis:

1. The distribution of cryogenic surgical devices: For the ablation of prostate tissue and liver metastases;

2. Laser cosmetic services: Candela Skin Care Centers Inc. is in the process of establishing an international chain of cosmetic clinics that provide a full line of skin care services;

3. Core business: The design, development, manufacture and marketing of a growing product line of medical lasers.

Puorro added, "We are very pleased with the progress we have already achieved in our diversification strategy. Our first Candela Skin Care Center in Framingham, Mass., was opened in October 1995, and we are developing plans to open multiple centers throughout the United States."
