CancerVax Adds Phillip Schneider to Board of Directors.

CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 2003

CancerVax Corporation announced today that Phillip M. Schneider, M.B.A., C.P.A., has joined the Company's Board of Directors and will serve as Audit Committee Chairman. Schneider brings 22 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry to the Board of CancerVax, including 15 years of financial management experience at IDEC IDEC Instituto Brasileiro de Defesa do Consumidor (Portugese: Brazilian Consumer Protection Agency)

 Pharmaceuticals Corporation where he recently retired as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Schneider currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Audit Committee for Gen-Probe Inc. Previously, during his career with IDEC, he led a team of 70 people who had responsibility for SEC reporting, accounting and treasury, among other activities. Schneider was the lead finance member for IDEC's initial public offering and helped raise over $1 billion in financing through private equity, public equity, partnership financing and convertible debt. Prior to joining IDEC, Schneider served in a number of corporate finance and financial reporting capacities with Syntex Pharmaceuticals Corporation and was previously with KPMG KPMG Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (accounting firm)
