Cancer victim Joanna wins dream cruise.

A cancer victim who took to entering competitions to get her through her illness is the latest winner of The Journal's mini-cruise to Norway offer.

 Close, Fishburn, Stockton-on-Tees, was forced to take time off from her job as a hygiene manager for Pride Valley Foods when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease Hodgkin's disease, a type of cancer of the lymphatic system. First identified in 1832 in England by Thomas Hodgkin, it is a type of malignant lymphoma. Incidence peaks in young adults and the elderly.  in July 2003.

She said: "I needed something to keep me going so I started buying The Journal and entering the reader competitions.

"I read The Journal every day and it has been with me all through my illness."

She said: "It was a lovely surprise. I'm really pleased. I've always wanted to go to see the Northern Lights but we had to put a holiday to Iceland off when I was diagnosed. Now I might get the chance."

Joanna will be going on the cruise with her husband, Graham, 38, a planning manager for steel manufacturing giant Corus, who she has been with for 10 years and married last year in a wedding at the fairytale venue of the Bowes Museum The Bowes Museum has a nationally renowned art collection and is situated in the town of Barnard Castle, Teesdale, County Durham, England.

The museum contains an El Greco, paintings by Goya, Canaletto, Boucher, Fragonard and a sizable collection of decorative art, ceramics,

She said: "Graham has been my rock over the last year."

"Barnard Castle is my favourite place in the world so it was lovely to get married there."

Joanna and Graham's last holiday was to Barcelona so the breathtaking fjords and unspoilt hinterland of Norway will be quite a change.

She said: "I just can't wait. It's going to be great to get away."

This isn't the first Journal competition that Joanna has won.

Joanna said: "We won a lawnmower just over a month ago so we are thrilled with The Journal right now.

"Although Graham uses the lawnmower more than I do."

Hodgkin's disease is one of a group of cancers called lymphomas.

It is quite rare and accounts for less than 1 per cent of all cases of cancer in the UK.
