MUSCAT Muscat, Maskat, or Masqat (all: mŭs`kăt, mŭs`kət), city (1993 pop. 533,774), capital of Oman, SE Arabia, on the Gulf of Oman. Screening tests help find cancer at an early stage before symptoms appear. According to the World Health Organisation, cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. However, 30 per cent of cancer deaths can be prevented if symptoms are treated early.
