THE Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin The Lord Mayor of Dublin is the symbolic head of the city government of Dublin, the capital of Ireland. The Lord Mayor is elected to office annually by members of Dublin City Council (previously known as Dublin Corporation) from amongst its members.  last night demanded Republican Sinn Fein shelve plans to stage a protest at this weekend's Croker clash.

The demonstration is to be held outside the ground ahead of Ireland's match against England.

But Aodhan O'Riordain last night appealed for the protest to be cancelled, claiming it would bring "unwanted tension" to the occasion.

The councillor said: "This weekend's game is a historic sporting event and one which is greatly anticipated in the local area.

"I am calling on Republican Sinn Fein to abandon their plans to protest."
