Canal opens.

THE MAJOR pounds 22m project to link the city centre to the UK's 2,200-mile canal system will be officially opened today.

The new 1 1/2 -mile long canal, in the centre of Liverpool, will generate 200,000 extra visitors a year to the city's docks, worth an estimated pounds 1.9m to the local economy.
