Canadian endangered species. (News & Events).
The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada
(COSEWIC) met in November 2001 to review 37 species at risk. New species
added to the list of endangered species include the southern resident
population of killer whales and the southern population of tiger
salamander. Eleven species, reevaluated using new IUCN criteria, were
upgraded from Special Concern to Threatened (e.g. least bittern,
Ross's gull, rosyface shiner). The number of species at risk now
totals 387:29 Extirpated; 118 Endangered; 94 Threatened; 146 Special
