Canadian author named new president of PEN


The Canadian Canadian (kənā`dēən), river, 906 mi (1,458 km) long, rising in NE New Mexico. and flowing E across N Texas and central Oklahoma into the Arkansas River in E Oklahoma.  writer John Ralston Saul John Ralston Saul, CC , Ph.D (born June 19, 1947) is a Canadian author and essayist.

As an essayist Saul is particularly known for his commentaries on the nature of individualism, citizenship and the public good; the failures of manager-, or more precisely technocrat-, led

The 62-year-old was appointed at PEN's 75th international congress in Linz, Austria, and takes over from Czech author Jiri Grusa.

Ralston Saul, from Ottawa, worked at an investment company in Paris and a Canadian oil firm before devoting himself exclusively to writing.
