In the suit, the CWB claims ConAgra, through its subsidiaries, sold grain to a broker in Quebec, who then allegedly sold it to ConAgra's U.S. operations. Canada Customs and Revenue Agency investigated the shipments but recently concluded charges under its legislation were not warranted. CWB has decided to pursue a civil case to try to recoup revenues that it believes it is owed. The incident involves an estimated 27,000 tonnes of wheat first sold in 1997, says Louise Waldman, CWB spokeswoman. |
