Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd. commences 1996 exploration drilling in Nigria.CALGARY, Alberta--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 26, 1996--Canadian Occidental Petroleum Occidental Petroleum Corporation ("Oxy") NYSE: OXY is an international oil and gas exploration and production company with operations in the United States, Middle East/North Africa and Latin America regions. Ltd. announces the spudding of the Ejulebe East No. 1 well on Oil Mining Lease 109, offshore Nigeria. The well is located approximately 15 kilometers offshore in 50 feet of water and is assessing the reserve potential of a fault block adjacent to the main Ejulebe fault block where two wells have been successfully drilled to date. The well will test three primary horizons which successfully tested commercial quantities of oil in the two prior wells. In addition, the Ejulebe East well will evaluate the hydrocarbon hydrocarbon (hī'drōkär`bən), any organic compound composed solely of the elements hydrogen and carbon. The hydrocarbons differ both in the total number of carbon and hydrogen atoms in their molecules and in the proportion of hydrogen potential of a number of other horizons. Drilling is scheduled to take approximately 20 days, reaching a total depth of 9,700 feet. Immediately following completion of Ejulebe East No. 1, a wildcat wildcat, common name of two Old World cats, the European wildcat, Felis sylvestris, of Europe and W Asia, and the African wildcat, or kaffir cat, F. lybica, of Africa and Asia. exploration well will be drilled on the Uteumi prospect. Uteumi is located approximately six kilometers to the west of the Ejulebe field and has the potential to contain significant hydrocarbon accumulations.
