CN Nears End of Current Round of Bargaining in Canada

:CNI) (TSE:CNR.) said today it has reached a tentative collective agreement with the Canadian Council of Railway Operating Unions (CCROU).

The CCROU negotiates on behalf of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE) was a labor union founded in Marshall, Michigan on May 8, 1863, as The Brotherhood of the Footboard; a year later, its name was changed to The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.  and the United Transportation Union, which together represent about 4,800 CN employees in Canada.

The leadership of each union is recommending ratification of the three-year agreement; details of the tentative pact will not be released until it's ratified. The current contract expired at yearend 2000.

CN is winding up national labour negotiations in Canada. In the current round of talks, CN has secured agreements with the Canadian Auto Workers The Canadian Auto Workers (CAW; formally the National Automobile, Aerospace, Transportation and General Workers Union of Canada) is one of Canada's largest and highest profile trade unions. , Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) is a labor union which represents workers in the electrical industry in the United States and Canada, particularly electricians, or Inside Wiremen, in the construction industry and linemen and other employees of public  and the Canadian National Railways Police Association. CN remains in active bargaining with the Rail Canada Traffic Controllers.
