) Canadian National Railway Company Canadian National Railway Company (NYSE: CNI, TSX: CNR) is a Canadian rail transportation company that operates the Canadian National Railway. It was created in December, 1918 as a Crown corporation of the Government of Canada to nationalize several bankrupt rail systems  (CN) announced today the appointment of three senior sales and marketing executives. They are:

William K. Berry, 51 years old. Berry joins CN as vice-president - intermodal, responsible for the sales, marketing and operations of CN's $900-million-a-year intermodal group, including the intermodal business of Illinois Central Railroad Illinois Central Railroad (IC)

former U.S. railroad founded in 1851 that merged with the Canadian National Railway Co. (CN) in 1999. After receiving its charter in 1851, the Illinois Central Railroad built its first line from Galena to Cairo, Ill.
 Company. Berry reports to James M. Foote, CN's senior vice-president, sales and marketing.

CN has received regulatory approval in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  to acquire Illinois Central Corporation (IC), parent of Illinois Central Railroad, and expects to commence the integration of CN and IC on July 1, 1999.

Berry has more than 30 years of U.S. railroad experience. Berry joined Southern Pacific Lines as vice-president, intermodal/automotive operations in 1992 and two years later was promoted to managing director, coal marketing/sales. Following the merger of Union Pacific Railroad Union Pacific Railroad, transportation company chartered (1862) by Congress to build part of the nation's first transcontinental railroad line. Under terms of the Pacific Railroads Act, the Union Pacific was authorized to build a line westward from Omaha, Nebr.  and Southern Pacific in 1996, Berry was appointed as UP's business director - coal, a position he held until he joined CN.

Between 1980 and 1992 Berry was employed by Burlington Northern Railway, where he was senior assistant vice-president, intermodal, and assistant vice-president, domestic container system, a position in which he successfully established BN's domestic container program, BN America. Berry has extensive experience in the technological development of intermodal equipment such as RoadRailer, and has chaired a number of intermodal industry associations. CN has announced the acquisition of bi-modal RoadRailer equipment for Toronto-Montreal service starting this August.

Berry is a graduate of Southwest Missouri State College.

Cliff Carson, 51. Carson has been promoted to the position of vice-president, commercial development - eastern division, responsible for sales activities and product strategies for eastern Canada Eastern Canada (also the Eastern provinces) is the region of Canada generally considered to be east of Manitoba, consisting of the following provinces:
  • Ontario (1 July 1867)
  • Quebec (1 July 1867)
  • New Brunswick (1 July 1867)
  • Nova Scotia (1 July 1867)
. Carson reports to Keith Heller, CN's senior vice-president, eastern division.

Carson, most recently CN's assistant vice-president - forest products, has held a succession of senior management positions during his 34-year career at CN, including general manager, operations planning, a position in which he was instrumental in developing CN's double-stack container train network.

Carson holds a bachelor of commerce The Bachelor of Commerce is a bachelor's degree in business management, accounting and economic fields. The degree is also known as the Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (BCA).  degree from Sir George Williams University and a master of business administration from Concordia University.

Stan Jablonski, 48. Jablonski joins CN as vice-president, forest products, responsible for marketing and national account sales of CN's $1-billion forest products group, including IC's forest products business. Jablonski reports to Foote.

Jablonski was most recently vice-president - sales, at Kruger Inc., a Montreal-based forest products company, where he was responsible for domestic and overseas sales and marketing of newsprint, coated and specialty papers, customer service, and marine, rail and truck transportation. At Kruger, Jablonski spent 12 years in finance and 10 years in sales.

Jablonski has a degree in economics and finance from Loyola College.

Foote said: "CN is gaining seasoned, hands-on sales and marketing experience with these appointments. These customer-focused executives give CN a blend of industry, highway, water transportation and railroad experience that will complement the considerable expertise of CN's senior sales and marketing team. They will help CN with its ongoing improvements designed to serve customers better and increase CN revenue, while securing the efficiencies and potential of CN's pending merger with Illinois Central."

Canadian National operates track in eight Canadian provinces and six U.S. states, with principal routes to every major metropolitan area in Canada and to the major U.S. rail hubs of Buffalo, Detroit, Duluth/Superior, Wis., and Chicago. CN is North America's only transcontinental railroad, and Canada's largest railroad serving all five major Canadian ports on the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and the Great Lakes.
