The CNRPA ratification marks the second contract renewal by CN in its current round of national collective bargaining in Canada. The new CNRPA labour agreement, effective Jan. 1, 2001, provides for wage increases over the term of the contract and some improvements in benefits. CNRPA members continue to receive gain-sharing bonuses and maintain the right to participate in CN's employee share investment plan. CN Police officers are stationed in Canada's major urban centres to ensure the safety and security of CN's rail network in partnership with government police departments and other organizations. The CN police force is also actively involved in education programs to alert youths and recreation clubs of the dangers of trespassing on railway property. CN continues to negotiate with four bargaining units representing five unions whose contracts expire on Dec. 31, 2000.
