Canadian National: CN Completes Responsible Care Initiative in Canada.

:CNR.) today announced that it has successfully implemented the Responsible Care(R) initiative at its Canadian operations, following a thorough verification of its management practices.

The verification was conducted by an independent team under the auspices of the Canadian Chemical Producers' Association (CCPA).

Responsible Care(R) was developed by the chemical industry to address public concerns about the manufacture, distribution and use of chemicals, and has been extended to partners in related industries such as railroads.

"Responsible Care(R) represents CN's long-term commitment to continuously improving the safety of its operations, while protecting the environment for all," said Canadian National's President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Paul M. Tellier. "Responsible Care(R) brings together the initiatives of each member and partner company and unites CN and its customers in the pursuit of their common objectives."

A further round of verification will assess CN's Responsible Care(R) practices in the United States. This verification, which will be coordinated by the American Chemistry Council The American Chemistry Council (ACC), formerly known as the Chemical Manufacturers' Association, is an industry trade association for American chemical companies.

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) is in charge of improving the public image of the chemical industry.
, will take place in 2003. Re-verifications take place every three years in order to monitor companies' compliance with the program.
