Canada shows its love for Film Festivals.This year, Canadian Canadian (kənā`dēən), river, 906 mi (1,458 km) long, rising in NE New Mexico. and flowing E across N Texas and central Oklahoma into the Arkansas River in E Oklahoma. festival-goers will get three film festivals for the price of two. This is the way it works: First one has to go the Montreal Montreal (mŏn'trēôl`), Fr. Montréal (môNrāäl`), city (1991 pop. 1,017,666), S Que., Canada, on Montreal island, surrounded by St. Lawrence River and Rivière des Prairies. World Film Festival held August 26-September 5 (see page 20). Next, hop on Verb 1. hop on - get up on the back of; "mount a horse" bestride, climb on, jump on, mount up, get on, mount move - move so as to change position, perform a nontranslational motion; "He moved his hand slightly to the right" over the Toronto Toronto (tərŏn`tō), city (1998 est pop. 2,400,000), provincial capital, S Ont., Canada, on Lake Ontario. Toronto is the largest city in Canada and since the 1970s has been one of the fastest-changing cities in North America, experiencing International Film Film Festival, unspooling September 8-17 (see story on pg. 22) and, finally, go back to Montreal for Le Festival Int-ernational de Films de Montreal September 18-25 (page 20). Add up all the receipts, add a 30 percent exchange rate increase (for the euro and U.S. dollar), and send the bill to Film Quebec and FilmOntario and hope to get some film tax credit and subsidies (pg. 12). |
