Canada Safeway streamlines Western Canadian administrative functions.

Western Canada, commonly referred to as the West

The restructuring will eliminate a total of approximately 200 full-time and part-time administrative positions in ThunderBay, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon Saskatoon (săskətn`), city (1991 pop. 186,058), S central Sask., Canada, on the South Saskatchewan River. , Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver. Employees whose jobs are affected will receive notice today. While some employees will receive notice of immediate termination, the majority of the jobs affected will be eliminated over the next six months. The notice will include the terms of each employees severance package A severance package is pay and benefits an employee receives when they leave employment at a company. In addition to the employee's remaining regular pay, it may include some of the following:

The reorganization will not affect store employees in Safeway's 221 retail stores across Canada.

Safeway continues to employ 33,000 retail and backstage employees in Western Canada.
