) is responsible for examining millions of traveler's documents each year. To meet the need for increased security, Canada will initially deploy the iA-thenticate BorderGuard solution at the 40 most heavily-trafficked points-of-entry and may expand to include every point-of-entry.

The initial iA-thenticate BorderGuard solution deployment enables Customs Officers of the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency to examine more than 200,000 passports, driver's licenses, visas, and Canadian Permanent Resident cards daily, and significantly improves border security by identifying false documents. "This technology is vital to enhanced border security. Securing the Border

Before selecting the iA-thenticate BorderGuard solution, the CCRA conducted a one-year trial evaluation of the system. Imaging Automation was the only company able to satisfy all of its requirements. The initial deployment began in mid-October. The product--linked to watch lists--will identify wanted criminals, terrorists and other suspect individuals and will help customs inspectors improve their ability to identify fraudulent documents.

The need for automated document authentication is more important now than ever as the number of fraudulent ID documents, undetectable by visual inspection, is on the rise. In 2000, only 10 percent of false IDs were deemed "high quality"; in 2001 that number jumped to 35-40 percent. "Document authentication is essential for enhanced border control, and it has been proven to work in countries around the world," said Bill Thalheimer, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "Many security features on passports and other documents are invisible to the human eye, and it is only by integrating the ability to authenticate the whole document with other security initiatives that a country can be sure it is maintaining proper border control."

The iA-thenticate BorderGuard solution determines, in just a few seconds, whether or not a document is authentic, if it is expired, if it has been tampered with or if the photo or text match any government watch lists of criminals or terrorists. The iA-thenticate platform with the BorderGuard solution performs multiple security checks in seconds. iA-thenticate BorderGuard reads each document's machine-readable zone, magnetic-stripe, and/or 2D barcode and performs a battery of tests to validate the traveler's documents.

iA-thenticate BorderGuard platform applications are in use with the Swedish National Police, the Hungarian Border Police, the Finland Frontier Guards and others. Since deploying Imaging Automation's platform at its borders, Hungary has realized a 500 percent increase in border violation arrests.
