Canada's ban on sexchange surgery.


Ottawa--While carnage and chaos reign south of the border, it is business as usual with the Canadian Human Rights Commission The Canadian Human Rights Commission was established in 1977 by the government of Canada. It is empowered under the Canadian Human Rights Act to investigate and try to settle complaints of discrimination in employment and in the provision of services within federal . In yet another of its unbelievable decisions, it has now ruled that Corrections Canada's ban on sexchange surgery for prison inmates is discriminatory and must be reversed. The decision relates to the case of Synthia Kavanagh, sentenced to prison as a male, but now claiming he is essentially female.

 based part of its judgment on the fact that the prison service permitted other "non-essential" procedures such as tattoo removals.

Comment:
