Some states call it the Public Service Commission (PSC).  Telecom, provider of advanced telecommunications services, today announced that Broadband over Power line (BPL) technology has been deployed in Sault Ste. Sault Ste. Marie (nicknamed "the Sault" or "the Soo") is a city on the St. Marys River in Ontario, Canada.
. Amperion's products allow utilities and service providers to use existing powerline infrastructures to provide high-speed data transport and enhanced utility services economically and with minimal capital investment.

In addition to this deployment, PUC Telecom and Amperion have struck an agreement to work with other Canadian utilities to roll out high speed broadband service using the Amperion Connect(TM) platform. While there are numerous BPL deployments across the United States and around the world, this is the first in the Canadian market.

PUC Telecom is excited to bring local competition to high-speed Internet markets that have traditionally been dominated by national cable and telecommunications companies. By deploying the Amperion solution, PUC Telecom will be able to turn Sault Ste. Marie into one citywide Hot Spot. "The inherent roaming capability of PowerWiFi is a service differentiator not offered by other broadband incumbents," stated Jeffery Tolnar, Amperion's vice president of sales, marketing and business development. "PUC Telecom brings a unique blend of utility knowledge, telecommunications experience and business development skills that will help us launch and grow the market for BPL service in Canada."

After reviewing competitive offerings, the Amperion Connect(TM) solution was selected because it is well suited for PUC Telecom's deployment plans to extend their service offerings beyond their traditional footprint in Sault Ste. Marie. "We are impressed with Amperion's leadership, technology, field experience and commitment," stated Martin Wyant, PUC Telecom's general manager. "We will quickly move from a market trial to commercial deployments in selected residential and business areas in Sault Ste. Marie," added Wyant.
